You need to be confident in working a double crochet to take this class, previous experience in embroidery is helpful but not essential! Check out the Embroidery 101 if you would like to brush up on those skills first.
In this 2 part workshop you will learn all aspects to make this stunning homage to Maud Lewis's Yellow Birds.
In class one we will work a sample of the design, including the bird and leaves (the design on the back of Rebecca's sweater). We will also work a sample of the crochet flower, the crochet flower is not included in the pattern and Rebecca will be providing this in the workshop.
Class two we will apply the surface decoration!
We will also discuss gauge, ensuring you choose the right size to make based on your gauge.
Techniques covered:
- Working Tapestry crochet on the right and wrong side, how to carry and catch your yarn, how to calculate yarn usage.
- Surface decoration:
- Surface slip stitch
- Straight stitch
- Surface Darning Stitch
- Couching
- Filled Lazy Daisy
- French knots
Materials required (not included):
- Maud Lewis' Yellow Birds Crochet sweater pattern, by Grace Tompins. Available through Etsy here.
