Dahlia Cardigan | 5 part class

INTERMEDIATE -  You need to know how to knit and purl, fix mistakes and have made a sweater before to take this class.

Dahlia Cardigan (Ravelry link) by Heather Zoppetti is a stunning and unique design. You start at the centre of the back and work the lace panel in the round. Panels are knit, stitches are picked up and the lace panel turns into a large rectangle with waste yarn for the afterthought sleeves. You will learn how to implement short rows where none are mentioned in the pattern to improve the fit of the sleeves.

• Following a lace pattern and using a chart
• Provisional cast-on.
  
• Undoing your cast on and picking up live stitches.
• Afterthought sleeves
• Working vertical to horizontal mattress stitch.
• Implementing short rows into patterns

Classes include homework which you need to complete each week to ensure you get the most from the class and finish your Dahlia!

Dates:

Saturday March 1st, 15th, April 5th, 26th and May 10th 10am - 11:30am.

Materials required (not included):

• Dahlia Cardigan pattern available through Ravelry
• Sweater quantity of yarn in DK or Sport. Sample uses WildWestDye pure merino. If using a DK weight yarn you will need more yardage than stated - please chat with Rebecca about this. 
• Quantities are on Ravelry page.
• Needles to achieve gauge and similar sized crochet hook
• Spare yarn, must be smooth, for provisional cast on

General notions; stitch markers, tape measure, darning needle, spare yarn for placing stitches on hold or barber cords.

Class one: You will learn the alternative magic ring cast on and start the lace pattern. Rebecca will ensure you understand how to read and follow the chart.

Homework: Continue working the lace pattern.

Class two: Working the provisional cast on to start the back top and bottom pieces. 

Homework: Work wrong side row and place stitch markers for pattern repeat.

Class three: Undoing provisional cast-on - adding the sections to the lace, learning the afterthought waste yarn method for the sleeve 

Homework Continue working on your body.

Class four: Putting live stitches on your needle from the afterthought sleeve, starting the short rows for the sleeves (an addition to the pattern). 

Homework Completing the ridge pattern on your sleeves and continuing your body.

Class five: Seaming the back with mattress stitch, ensure you understand the sleeve lace chart.
