32 beautiful new colours, and not just for embroidery!!

Lichen & Lace Embroidery floss

Hot out the box, we have a Lichen & Lace Embroidery yarn restock, which includes 32 new colours, because I just couldn't help myself (and I'd have a few colour requests too!!)

Arriving yesterday afternoon I gave myself the mission to get them all out and displayed, it was quite the game finding enough pegs, but with some jigging around, I was able to find enough for all 51 colours!

I absolutely love Lichen & Lace, I've know their yarn and colours for quite some time now, and the old favourites always make me smile. I also added some of their newer colours to the order, Gladiolus (the hot pink) Ultraviolet (bright purple) and Fogbow to name a few.

These are currently available in store only, I may get round to photographing them in the next couple of weeks, and added to the website, but we'll see!

Suzanne's embroidery

Suzanne's embroidery on her jeans using Lichen & Lace embroidery floss is just stunning! Suzanne has well and truly caught the embroidery bug, she's been stitching away on a new knitted top, I'll have to get a picture next time she comes in with it!

And Granny Square earrings!

The order of teeny tiny crochet hooks (0.5mm - 1.5mm) arrived, and I has able to crochet up a pair of beautiful earrings! Instead of changing the colour in each round, like the design by Yarnspirations (Ravelry link), I grabbed a skein of Lichen & Lace Rainbow embroidery yarn, and a 1.5mm hook, and crocheted away!

I love how these have turned out, I'll be proudly wearing them on Granny Square appreciation day, but until then, our La-Baaad-bu at the front desk will be wearing them!!

Mary's Shiloh Tee!

Doesn't Mary (and her top) just look FABULOUS! Mary came to see us this week, with her 'hot off the hook' Shiloh Tee made with Gazzal Happy Feet in Purple Potion.

She took the Shiloh Tee class earlier this year, and this is her first top she's ever made! We are always so proud of our students, and we love seeing all the things you make!

And remember, if you have any project you need help with, we have our Finish it! Help & Assistance workshops every weekend!

On my hoop!

I've been stitching the Gingko Earrings from the new 3D Botanical Embroidery & Stumpwork book! They use the wire slip stumpwork technique, I've had a few people ask the question: What is Stumpwork?

Stumpwork is the name for 3 Dimensional elements within your embroidery, the one I've been exploring is using wire that is first stitched onto the fabric, using couching which is basically little tacks. The wire is then fully covered with blanket stitch (sometimes before all after). In the earrings above you can see the stitching in gold.

The design is then filled in, in the earrings I have used Thread Painting, which is long and short satin stitch. The design can then be cut out and applied to your design, or your ears!

We have the Stumpwork Strawberries workshop happening next weekend, or if you haven't dived into embroidery yet, we have Embroidery 101 on Saturday August 8th!
