INTERMEDIATE. You need to know how to knit and purl, fix mistakes and have made a sweater before to take this class.
Pixelated Pullover by Jennifer Beaumont is a fun stranded colourwork sweater, a top down, in the round, set-in-sleeve using the contiguous sleeve method developed by Susie Myers. It's a cool, interesting way to make a sweater!
Make it long sleeve or short, pops of colour, neutrals, make it the length you want and your preferred fit! We will check your gauge in the first class and discuss which size you should make to achieve the fit you want for you!
Techniques/ skills covered in this class:
- Checking gauge, making sure you like the fabric and choosing the correct size for your preferred fit.
- How to work stranded colourwork with one yarn from each hand on a knit and purl row.
- Colour dominance (stitch height dominance)
- Best practices for following a colourwork chart
- How to work a contiguous sleeve
- Make one right and left on right and wrong side of fabric
- Finishing techniques
Classes include homework.
Included in the class price is Pixelated Pullover (Ravelry link) pattern by Jennifer Beaumont.
Morning Class 9:30-11am: Tuesday October 17th, 31st, November 14th, 28th and December 12th.
Evening Class 6:30-8pm: Tuesday October 17th, 31st, November 14th, 28th and December 12th.

Colour When selecting your three colors, look for contrast between all three (particularly in weight (saturation)--darkness to lightness). They will be contrasted in every possible combination. Also, consider “what effect will these colors have on you?” Color 1 frames the face. The other colors are going to highlight different areas of the figure. Heavier, deeper colors will recede; lighter brighter colors will pop forward.
Sweater quantity of yarn in DK weight. Choose from Chester Knits Soft Sport, Estelle DK, WildWestDye DK, Umina, Silk Harmony (coming soon!)

3.25mm/ 3.5mm/ 3.75mm/ 4mm / US size 3/ 4/ 5/ 6 needles long circulars and needles for knitting the sleeves in the round (small circulars/ DPN's etc) Actual needle size required will depend on your personal gauge and fabric preference.
General notions; stitch markers, tape measure, darning needle, spare yarn or Barber cords for placing stitches on hold.
Class one: Measuring and checking your gauge, choosing your fabric preference, calculating which size if your gauge is different, practicing stranded colourwork on a knit and purl side.
Class two: Starting your sweater
Homework: Completing up to the start of colourwork.
Class three: Starting the colourwork yoke together.
Homework Completing your yoke so you are ready to split for your sleeves.
Class four: Trying on your sweater so far, splitting for your sleeves/ body and discussing any shaping you wish to add and bind off techniques.
Homework Continue working on your body.
Class five: Picking up stitches for your neckline, discussing/ picking up stitches for your sleeves and discussing finishing techniques.

Make up classes are not available, if you miss a session, Rebecca will do her best to get you back on track.
